Investment choice

Do you accrue pension capital with us? If so, you can choose your own investment profile. You can invest defensively, neutrally or offensively. The choice you make determines the risk you take. It also determines your chance of a higher pension.

Read below about the choices you can make. Or watch the webinar (In Dutch only) we held about investment choices.

What is what? What are my choices?

A defensive investment profile

If you choose a defensive profile, you will run less risk. This is because there is a lower chance of large fluctuations in your returns. If things turn out badly you will lose less. However, if things turn out well your increase will be lower than the increases if you had chosen a neutral or offensive profile.

A neutral investment profile

If you choose a neutral profile, you have opted for a profile that falls between a defensive and offensive profile. This corresponds to an average risk appetite. Any fluctuations have a greater impact on your pension than they would if you had you chosen a defensive profile; but less of an impact on your pension than they would if you had you chosen an offensive profile.

An offensive investment profile

If you choose an offensive profile then, if things turn out well, you have a better chance of having a higher pension. However, if things turn out badly, your pension could be lower. This is because there is a higher chance of large fluctuations in your returns than if you had chosen a neutral or defensive profile.

We invest your pension capital on your behalf. We do this on the basis of lifecycles. This means the older you are the less risk we take with your investments. You can also choose how we invest on your behalf.

How do I make a choice?

We consider it very important that you choose an investment profile that suits you. Therefore, we have developed a choice-advice tool to help you. By answering a number of questions, you will be advised which investment profile suits you. However, you have the freedom to choose any investment profile you want.

Step 1

You log in to MijnPGBpensioen. You do that using the DigiD-app or your Digid, with an extra text message to check you are the person logging in.

Step 2

You will be asked a few questions about:

  • your risk appetite;
  • your experience of investing / your knowledge of investing;
  • your financial position and sustainability.

Subsequently, you receive advice. You will then know which investment profile is best suited to you.

Step 3

You make a choice. You are free to choose whether to follow the advice or to choose a different profile.

When to make a (new) choice?

At any time you choose, you can complete the choice-advice tool and pass your choice on.
If you pass this choice on before the 20th of any month, we will invest your pension capital the following month using the investment profile you have chosen. If you pass this choice on after the 20th of any month, we will process your choice as quickly as possible. At MijnPGBpensioen, you can see when your investment choice became effective.

Changes in your personal situation
Has anything changed in your personal situation, for example, a marriage or a divorce? In which case, it would be sensible to look at the choice you have made again. You do so by following steps one to four (shown above) again.

Choice advice tool
We would request you to look at the investment profile you have chosen every year. As it is always possible that your situation has changed and a different investment profile may now suit you better than the one you originally chose. Consequently, each year we send you a letter in which we ask you to complete the choice-advice tool again. If you decided not to choose an investment profile, you will be sent a letter every five years.

You do not want to make a choice

If you do not want to make a choice, this is not a problem.  You do not need to do anything. We will then ensure that your pension is invested in accordance with the standard ‘neutral’ investment profile. Even if you start completing the choice-advice tool and decide halfway through you do not want to make a choice, you can indicate this in the tool. If you do make a choice for a specific investment profile, then, via the choice-advice tool, you can, at a later date, indicate that you wish Pensioenfonds PGB to invest on your behalf using the standard investment profile ‘neutral’.

Our answers to frequently asked questions:

  • How can I amend my choice?

If you wish to amend your choice, you login to MijnPGBpensioen. You do that using the DigiD-app or your Digid, with an extra text message to check you are the person logging in. You then go to the choice-advice tool. This can be found at the top of the homepage under ‘Mijn beleggingskeuzes’ (My investment choices). You complete the questions. Subsequently, you pass on your new choice to us.

  • When do I pass my choice on?

You can pass your choice on whenever you want. You can also amend your choice at any time you want. If you pass this choice on before the 20th of any month, we will use your newly chosen profile to invest as of the 1st of the following month. If you pass this choice on after the 20th of any month, we will process your choice as quickly as possible. At MijnPGBpensioen, you can see when your investment choice became effective.

  • I know what my choice is already. Should I still complete the choice-advice tool?

Even if you think you know your choice, we would ask you to complete the questions in the choice-advice tool. We consider it very important that you choose an investment profile that suits you. If you still wish to choose a profile that differs from the advice, that is possible, you have the freedom to choose any investment profile you want.

  • My personal situation has changed, is it necessary to amend my investment profile?

Dependant on the changes in your personal situation, it could be sensible to amend you investment profile accordingly. Think for example of getting married or divorced, or being made redundant. These could all be reasons to think about reconsidering your investment profile. The changes could have an impact on the risk you are prepared, or able, to take with your pension capital.
