Are you about to retire? Then, you can opt to change the level of your partner's pension. You can make three choices:
By default, your partner will receive a portion of your pension if you die. This is usually 70% of the pension. However, you can also opt for: a higher pension, an equal pension or no pension for your partner. The overview below explains what these options mean for you.
You will receive a letter from us with all the information you need. It is important that you think carefully about your choice, because you cannot change it once you have retired.
| More pension | Equal pension | No pension |
| You opt to accrue more pension for your partner. For example, because your partner has very little or no pension provision. | You can opt to have the same amount of pension paid out if either you or your partner die | For example, because you consider financial equality important. |
| Your own pension will be lower. | You will receive a lower pension if your partner dies before you | Your own pension will be higher. |
| Your partner will receive a larger portion of your pension if you die. | Your partner will receive the same pension that you would have received if you had died. | Your partner will not receive a partner pension if you die. |
| Your partner does not need to give consent for this. | Your partner has to agree with your choice. | Your partner must waive his or her rights to a partner’s pension. |
We expect to do this on January 1, 2027. In the new pension you can still opt for pension for yourself. Or you may opt to accrue more pension for your partner. In the new pension the rules for partner's pension will be the same.
What you have accrued will remain. And will go into your own retirement savings.
