Until when do I receive orphan’s pension?
You will receive an orphan’s pension until you turn 21. After that, you can also receive an orphan’s pension until the age of 27. In that case, you must meet the following conditions:

• You are 21 or older but younger than 27 and;
• You go to school or follow (vocational) training and;
• The study load is demonstrably at least 18 hours per week.

We check with DUO whether you are studying
At the start of each new academic year, we request your study details from DUO. We also do this just before you turn 21. Are you following a full-time course? Then you will continue to receive your orphan’s pension. Are you following a part-time course? Then we will not receive the study load information from DUO. We will then ask you to complete a study declaration. You will receive a letter about this every year in September at the latest. Or, if you are turning 21, in the month before your birthday. You will also find the study declaration here  (in Dutch only).

Good to know: If you stop studying halfway through the year, you will receive an orphan’s pension until the end of the academic year. The orphan’s pension will then stop on 1 October.

Opt for the benefits of digital mail

Want your mail kept securely together so you know exactly what you have? You can arrange this by visiting mijnpgbpensioen.nl; enable ‘digital mail’ if you haven’t already done so.

You will then receive an e-mail when there is post for you. This way, you avoid searching and unnecessary paperwork, and you help the environment. We also do that for each other.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I have my orphan’s pension paid into my own bank account?

    Yes, that is possible from your 18th birthday. We will automatically send you a letter with your bank account number. You can also change your bank account number here. Before you turn 18, we will only transfer the orphan’s pension to the bank account of your parent or guardian.

  • How do I change my account number?

    There are two ways to do this:

    1. You change your bank account number at MijnPGBpensioen
      Log in here with your DigiD. Then click on your name in the top right corner. Then click on ‘Personal details and preferences’. Here, under ‘Bank details’, click on ‘Change bank account number’.

    2. You provide your new bank account number via e-mail
      To change your bank account number, you can also send a copy of your bank card or account statement. Please make sure that your name and bank account number (IBAN) are legible. Please also include your client number in your email. We will then update your bank account number.
  • Do I have to tell you if I stop studying in the meantime?

    No, that is not necessary. Each year in September, we check whether you are still studying. If you are no longer studying, your orphan’s pension will stop on 1 October. Even if you stop studying halfway through the year, you will receive an orphan’s pension until 1 October.
