Pension start date

With us, you will receive your pension from the first day of the month in which you are initially entitled to a state pension (AOW).

The age at which you become entitled to a state pension (AOW age) depends on when you were born. As of 2026, the AOW age will be linked to the average life expectancy. Here you can calculate when you'll first get your state pension (AOW).

Retiring early or later
You can still decide to retire early; and you can also decide to defer your retirement. Or you may decide to take partial retirement and continue working the remainder of the time. Read more about retiring early or later.

Good to know

In the new pension system, the government has decided that the increase in the state retirement age (AOW age) is to be frozen for the next two years at 66 years and 4 months. Subsequently, the AOW age will rise to 66 years and 7 months in 2022, 66 years and 10 months in 2023, and 67 years in 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027. From 2028 onwards, the AOW age has not as yet been stipulated as the age will depend on the average life expectancy of the population. In our pension planner, at, account has been taken of the new AOW age.
