New pension rules get the go-ahead: Senate gives its approval

On 30 May, the Senate approved the Future Pensions Act (Wtp) legislative proposal. After years of discussions and many debates, we are now finally going towards a new pension together.

You will accrue your new pension with us from 2027
On 30 May, the Senate voted on the new pension rules. A majority voted in favour of the new act (46 in favour and 27 against). This means the new pension system will now really come into effect. Employers and employees are collectively working on making choices for their pension schemes within the new rules. They will pass on their choices to us by 1 October 2024 at the latest. Minister Schouten gives pension funds an additional year to arrange the transition to the new pension (1 January 2028). Pensioenfonds PGB wants to complete the transition a year earlier. You are therefore expected to accrue a pension from 1 January 2027 in your new pension scheme with Pensioenfonds PGB.

How will the new rules affect you?
The most important change is that everyone will soon accrue a pension in a defined contribution scheme. That means you will be accruing individual pension capital. We invest that pension capital to ensure it grows. As a result, your personal pension fund assets move along with the investment returns. We do not yet know exactly how your pension will be affected. It depends on the choices made by your employer or the sector in which you work with regard to your new pension scheme. They do this in consultation with the employees (or employee representation). As soon as we know exactly how you will be affected, we will let you know.

If we are already paying you a pension or if you accrued a pension with us in the past, the new rules also apply to you from 1 January 2027

We do not yet know exactly how your pension will be affected. That depends on the choices your former employer, or the sector in which you worked, make about the new pension scheme. If your former employer no longer exists, or if you worked in a non-compulsorily affiliated sector, the current rules will continue to apply to your pension. In that case, no new pension scheme will be agreed for you. As soon as we know exactly how you are affected, we will let you know.
