New rules have been drawn up for pensions in the Netherlands. We expect your pension at Pensioenfonds PGB to change on 1 January 2027. Our customer service team regularly receives questions about the partner's pension under the new rules. Will there still be a partner's pension in the future? What will change in the partner's pension? And what do the new rules mean if you are already receiving a partner's pension? Yannick answers the most frequently asked questions about the new partner's pension.

Will my partner still receive a partner's pension under the new pension scheme when I die?

Yes, under the new pension scheme too, your partner will receive a pension from us when you die. We will pay that pension for as long as your partner is alive, just as we do now. The rules for this pension will change, however. They will soon be the same for everyone in the Netherlands. This makes it clearer what your partner can count on.

What will change in the partner's pension?

The amount of the partner's pension will be a percentage of your salary at the time of your death. It no longer matters how long you have worked for your employer. And in any case, you are insured for a partner's pension as long as you contribute money with us for your pension.

What happens to the partner's pension I have already accrued?

Already accrued a partner's pension with us before the transition to the new rules? This will remain in force. If you die while still contributing money with us for your pension, your partner will receive the partner's pension according to the new rules, as well as the partner's pension you had already accrued. Your partner will receive this for as long as he or she is alive.

I receive a partner's pension. Will that change?

Are you receiving a partner's pension? Then you will still do so under the new rules. The partner's pension will fluctuate more with the economy. Which in turn means we can increase the partner's pension quicker when the economy is doing well. However, if it isn’t doing so well, we can also reduce your pension quicker.

To prevent the latter as much as possible, agreements have been made, but what they are depends on your pension scheme. The solidarity contribution scheme, for example, has a reserve fund to supplement the pensions of pensioners, so reductions are prevented as much as possible. And we spread the results of our investments over several years to ensure pensions do not suddenly increase or decrease significantly. We will tell you more about how the new rules will affect your pension in the course of 2026.

Good to know: you will not receive a different amount every month. You will receive the same amount throughout the year. This way, you know what to expect for the entire year.
