The new pension system: the journey to our new pensions

Hello, I’m Peter. I participate in the Pensioenfonds PGB pension scheme. I want to keep informed about my pension, for this is about my income for later. The introduction of the new pension system means that my pension will change too, so I want to know what that will mean for me. I share what I have found out on this page!

Timeline: the journey to the new pension 

It’s clear to me that changing the pension system won’t happen overnight. The government, employers’ representatives, employees and pensioners, supervisory authorities and the pensions sector have all been discussing this with each other for years. What I know now is: 

  • It was already agreed in 2019 that the increases in the retirement age for the state pension (AOW) will be slowed down. 
  • At the end of 2020, the government translated the Pension Agreement reached with the social partners (employers and employees) into a draft Bill. 
  • Everyone could send in reactions to this draft Bill with the pension changes, including the pension funds.
  • The pension funds are expected to be able to start work with the new rules by 1 January 2023 at the latest. 

The timeline below (in Dutch) shows what is on the agenda for the coming years. I will continually update this in line with the latest developments.
